Marc Georgi, MD

Marc Georgi, MD is the research director and founder of Catalyst Medical Consulting. He completed his internal medicine residency at Good Samaritan Hospital of Maryland in 2007, where he also served as Chief Resident and received multiple honors, including the Best Resident Award, the Professionalism and Humanism Award, and the Best Teaching Resident Award. He went on to complete his gastroenterology fellowship at the Harvard Medical School at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital program in 2013. In addition, he received advanced training in statistics, epidemiology, and clinical research design at leading institutions, including the Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Dr. Georgi has held academic and leadership positions throughout his career. He served as an academic hospitalist and faculty member at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (2007–2010), where he received the Scott Wright Award for Excellence in Academic Medicine. He later joined the University of South Carolina School of Medicine (2017–2022) as Assistant Professor of Medicine, earning recognition as Best Academic Faculty for his work in large database research and mentorship. He currently serves as a faculty member of the gastroenterology fellowship training program at INOVA Health, an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and as System Medical Director of Inpatient Gastroenterology at INOVA Health, where he has been honored with the Best Mentor Award by the INOVA Internal Medicine Residency Program In 2025. In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Georgi contributes nationally to the advancement of the field of gastroenterology. He is an item writer for the American Board of Internal Medicine Gastroenterology Maintenance of Certification examination, a member of the editorial board of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy where he was a recipient of the top reviewer award In 2022 and 2023, and a reviewer for several leading journals, including Gastroenterology, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He has served on abstract review committees for major national and international meetings, including the American College of Gastroenterology (2017–2024), World Congress of Gastroenterology (2017), and Digestive Disease Week (2022–2024). He also served as a moderator of the American Gastroenterological Association Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding Research Forum during Digestive Disease Week 2022.

With more than 13 years of experience in conducting and teaching large database analysis research, Dr. Georgi is recognized as an expert in working with NIS, NRD, NEDS, and other HCUP datasets. He has received many awards for his work with these databases, Including the American College of Gastroenterology Auxiliary Award for best research project by a trainee in 2013, an American Heart Association young investigator award in 2014, the American College of Gastroenterology Obesity research Award In 2015, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Diversity Award for Gender in 2024 and more.
